DIY | Sleeveless Summer Top

As promised, Karyn and I are back with a simple fashion DIY for summer. I am sure you have some old button up tops hanging in your closet that never got wears last winter… well here’s your opportunity to give those garments a little facelift, and  repurpose current clothes for a new season.

DIY | Sleeveless Summer Top

We found an old, thrifted top made of a lovely plaid fabric and cute collar details. The sleeves were a bit too big, so snip, snip, snip. We cut along the seam (on the sleeve-side), leaving the edge raw. As you may know, scissors are my best friend and make for a quick (and sew-free) fashion alteration.

The button up is perfect for layering and can be worn buttoned or unbuttoned, with a dress or skirt or with denim shorts. The 1970′s top now has a classy 1950′s look. Have fun creating a new wardrobe out of what your already have!

Have a great weekend!

Quinoa Taboule

I am a big fan of quinoa… you can prepare it so many ways. I can easily  have it for breakfastlunch or dinner! I have wanted to try this recipe for Quinoa Taboule and I finally made it last weekend. I didn’t have all the correct ingredients on hand, so I did a bit of substituting. It turned out quite delicious. It’s so fresh! Taboule is also a versatile dish. It’s great alone as a side-salad, with pita bread or chips, on a sandwich….the possibilities are endless.

Quinoa Taboule

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 Cups cooked and cooled Quinoa
  • 1 Cup chopped Parsley
  • 1/2 Cup chopped Scallions
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped fresh Mint
  • 1 Tbsp minced fresh Basil
  • 1 Garlic Clove, minced or pressed
  • 1/2 Cup fresh Lemon Juice
  • 1/4 Cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1/4 tsp. Salt
  • 1/8 tsp. freshly ground White Pepper

Toss together all ingredients. Chill for 1 hour or more to allow the flavors to blend. Makes 6 servings.

Karyn + Noah

I want to take a moment to formally introduce our current intern, Karyn. She’s a senior at Georgia Gwinnett College, and she’s as sweet as she is cute. Don’t you love her dress?!? Karyn has been a big help over the past month and her efficiency continues to wow me. Just for fun, I asked her a couple questions to help you get to know her.

Major: Marketing– I was inspired by my mom.

Favorite Color: Green–which probably explains why I enjoy nature so much.

Favorite Place: The beach. Any beach. There’s just something about the ocean….

Just Because: I always wished I could fly. Not only would it make my life ten times easier, but it would be so freeing to fly among the trees and take in all of nature’s beauty.

The best thing about paper is… the smile it brings to faces when a letter or card is sent snail-mail and waiting in your mailbox.

Gone Fishin'

You must experience each one before you can appreciate it. -Sarah Breathnach Yes, it’s those special moments in life we cherish. I have many memories fishing with my grandpa growing up.
