Happy Valentine's Day

This vintage wedding dress ($5 find!!) has always stuck out to me as the perfect Valentine’s dress.

Taking a trip down memory lane…

-Last year I made this Valentine’s garland… it’s hanging on the mantel again this year. A simple little craft to set the mood! haha.
-I also helped my sister create these Valentine Cards. Ahhhh… my how she has grown!

I hope you have a lovely day… filled with hugs, kisses, and/or chocolate! ;)

XOXO
Jamie

THINGS ARE NOT ALWAYS AS THE APPEAR

I think we all need this little reminder from time to time…

Don’t you love this camper on the river?!? When I saw it, I wanted to live there…surrounded by the most breath-taking views.

The photo is from my trip to New Zealand a couple of years ago. I never went through the photos and this year one of my goals is to just that. As a little discipline and inspiration, I’m posting images from that adventure.

Happy Monday!

CONCENTRATION vs CONSECRATION

Oh my! I am firm believer that you must be able to laugh at yourself! We all do stupid things sometimes and taking yourself too seriously is no fun! Well, that being said, I am a FOOL!

Last week I read a devotional and it really suck with me…the excerpt below in particular.

Consecration is the act of continually separating myself from everything except that which God has appointed me to do. It is not a one-time experience but an ongoing process. Am I continually separating myself and looking to God everyday of my life?

-My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers

The problem?!?! I totally read consecration as concentration, yeah... I am a smarty!! Consecration isn’t a word we often use and maybe you’ve never even heard it. Let me tell you, it makes a world of a difference when the passage reads in context.

I initially walked away challenged to concentrate. As a creative, my mind wanders all over. I am a dreamer and a visionary. I have notebooks full new design concepts and noteworthy ideas. Some days I try to balance way too much and take on more than I can handle… because well, they are all exciting projects. I often just start “doing” and not always first seeking out what I am “called” to do… hence my desire to focus and concentrate on what is before me each day. It’s that daily check… why I am doing what I am doing and have I sought God in this.

So yes, concentrating on what I am called to doing great. Though, it’s an act of my own accord. It’s focusing my undivided attention on a task and not cluttering my mind with other thoughts or ideas. Concentration is healthy and needed to achieve my goals.

Consecration however, is much more. It’s a surrender and commitment to a higher purpose, not of my own. It’s the daily obedience in my current circumstance and trusting God’s (often unknown) plan for provision. It’s following, not leading.

I am “planted” right here, right now for a purpose.

Fish Tacos

Mmmm… it’s getting close to lunch time and these are sounding quite good! I loooooove me some fish tacos! Last spring on family vacation we prepared this dinner, so fresh and colorful! These spreads are from a photo album I designed for my parents. I’m trying* to get better at doing something tangible (or at least posting) [...]

True Friendship

True Friendship: identifying with someone in thought, heart, and spirit. The whole experience of life is designed to enable us to enter into this closest relationship with Jesus Christ. Oswald Chambers // My Utmost for His Highest // January 7 Photo: New Zealand Trip 2009

Metallic Table Setting | preview

Here’s a look at our table from Christmas Eve. Next week I will share more photos and steps on how to create the same design for pennies. We used natural elements, so start scouting your neighborhood for cool bushes, branches, and leaves. This would make a cute Valentine’s Day table setting!! :) Have a wonderful [...]

thanksgiving 2011 recap

I spent last week in Virginia at my brother’s place. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays… the fall weather, the delicious food and the emphasis to be grateful. This year my grandpa was able to join us from Michigan. He hasn’t traveled much since his time in the service (which was in the 50′s). My contribution [...]

shaun+sari // wedded bliss

Last weekend I was up in Michigan for the wedding of Sari and Shaun. Sari was my bud in high school… we played sports together and bonded over an ungodly amount of time dedicated to decorating the school hallways for holidays and school spirit. Seriously, one day we braved a blizzard to cover the commons [...]

the perfect dress

While I was in Michigan it was homecoming weekend in my hometown, so I got to see my sister dressed up for the dance. Her dress was dreamy! I loved how it caught the light. I have already called dibs on borrowing it…now I just need to find an excuse to dress up! And yes, [...]

my trip | haddon michael

Meet Mr. Haddon Michael. He’s such a handsome boy… even if he’s not too keen on having his photo taken.  ;) Born a month early, he’s now 6 weeks old and weighing in just over 7 lbs. He’s so precious… his blue eyes and darling nose are two of my favorite features. It was blessing to [...]

my trip | indy

I am barely halfway through the week and so far I have eaten like a queen…lots of good eats with some besties! I went to Buca Beppo in Indianapolis last night. Just as the sign promised, they had “Tasty Food.” Krista made Carmel Apple Pie for dessert. Yeah, it was top-notch!!

my trip | cincinnati

My Monday evening was some QT spent with this little lady. She getting so big, but still as cute as the last time I saw her. We played in the dirt, shared some baby food snacks and watched her mom coach a volleyball game. Aren’t her little Toms adorable?!?!

my trip | nashville & louisville

Yesterday I took my first bus ride. I decided to travel with Greyhound… I knew it would be an experience. And it was. Sometimes I can be a little naive. haha. It was great because I was able to sleep and work. I had stops in Nashville and Louisville and snapped a few pics. I had to [...]

you spin me round

Last week I was sick. It wasn’t fun, but no worries-I am all better…wahoo! Here’s a random mix of some songs you’ll find me playing from time to time. The photos are extras from last week’s Wardrobe Wednesday.

i can't relate to boys...

Errr… it’s the honest truth… Especially while trying to take their picture. :) While I was in Michigan this summer I took Zach’s senior pictures. I could not be like, “play with your hair”… “twirl around”…”put your hand on your hip”… That would have been wrong on so many levels. haha. Fortunately Zach is my cousin, it [...]

my space // accessories // part one

This weekend I took time to officially unpack. I have been living in a “transition” mind-set for the past 8 months and hesitated to get cozy. This is not the ideal situation for someone that loves to have a specific place for everything. Amongst a couple containers, I finally cleaned out and organized my jewelry box. I went with [...]

Weekend Finds

Happy Monday! I thought I’d take a minute and share some little treasures I got thrifting this weekend. I am almost done putting together my studio and bedroom…and quite excited to share with you! Also, it’s been a little while since I’ve posted pics of my niece, so she played model for me this morning. [...]

gone fishing

I quickly snapped this photo at my grandfather’s house this summer. It has always been one of my favorite photos of my mom as a kid. She had ditched school and went fishing with my grandpa. I LOVE IT! After leaving I realized I was so focused on aligning the roof, that my angle was way, [...]

Flower Power

Flowers, how I love thee. While I was in Michigan I snapped some photos in my mom’s garden. I wanted to have some visual inspiration for an upcoming project. It was an overcast day, but beautiful nonetheless! Enjoy!

Meet Kelly // Intern

Let me take a minute to introduce Kelly, an intern with us. Kelly is a recent graphic design graduate. She went back to school for her second degree after teaching for a year. Kelly shares my love for creating and focusing on all the little details. She’s been a huge help around the studio! I [...]

recipe exchange

Last week my sister had a party. She had all of her guests submit their favorite recipe and bring the dish/treat. She used our Sweet Peony design (available on Etsy) for beverage labels and printed all the recipes out. Each guest got a little pack of all the recipes. Simple, yummy and fun.

my week... instagrammed

This week has been a blur. It starred off celebrating the fourth of July in a rental car. Drove up to Michigan for my grandmother’s funeral (we were in Michigan for less than 24 hrs!). Fortunately on the way up, one of my besties lives right on our route in Cincinnati. We were able to [...]

have a wonderful...

I hope your holiday is filled with sun, BBQ and quality time with those you love. Today we celebrate the freedom we have in this country, the civil liberties many have fought for. Freedom is a gift of great value. We so easily can take advantage of it and forget it’s cost. As a follower of [...]
