Bzzzzy Bee

One of my best friend’s was looking for a creative way to tell her family that she was pregnant. It was really exciting because this is her first pregnancy! She and her husband had a dinner planned with her parents and all her siblings…

She passed out boxes of sweethearts and the cards in red envelopes. It appeared to be your typical valentine…until the opened it! I’m so excited as they start their family!!

Inspiration? This is actually a little embarrassing. I was in the bathroom at Potbelly’s and the floor was hexagon tiles. Whenever I see this pattern I always think bee hive. It’s probably because my high school mascot was the “Yellow Jacket” and I had to make “bee inspired” yearbook spreads and yell crazy phrases like “Sting ‘Em!!” at basketball games. Ahh, those were the days.

Anyway, back to the baby announcements…when I thought “bees,” I thought “getting buzy” and it’s obvious relate to the baby making process. Come on it’s funny and kinda inappropriate…my humor tends to drift in that direction. It was definitely not the normal project, but I loved it! I hand drew all the elements on the card and the text is my handwriting, making it a little more personal.

Hope you like it!
